10 Ideas for Earth Day

Published on April 19th, 2012

If you’re in Santa Barbara, SAT, APRIL 21, visit the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park, 1400 Santa Barbara Street, starting at 11 AM. CAPS will have an Earth Day booth.

  1. If you’re in San Diego, visit the San Diego EarthFair in Balboa Park, 1549 El Prado, SUN, APRIL 22, starting at 10 AM. CAPS will be here too!
  2. For those in the Valley, check out the CAPS booth at the Thousand Oaks Arbor/Earth Day, SAT, APRIL 28, at Conejo Creek Park North, 1379 Janss Road, beginning at 11 AM.
  3. For those in the Santa Monica area, check out the Tadasana International Festival of Yoga & Music through SUN, APRIL 22 at the Santa Monica Beach. No CAPS booth, but this looks fun (NOT a free event)!
  4. Watch the documentary, “Mother: Caring for 7 Billion,” for FREE anytime on Earth Day, SUN, APRIL 22. Read my take on the film here, and for the screening, go to: http://www.motherthefilm.com
  5. Make a salad!
  6. The first Earth Day was in 1970. Read about Earth Day’s founder, Gaylord Nelson, who in later years said, “Population growth is the No. 1 environmental problem.”
  7. Read some of the Earth Day coverage and see how much of it includes mention of population growth (likely none!). Add this important topic to any discussions that come up with friends when talking about Earth Day!
  8. Become a “populationist” – someone who thinks in terms of how population might be a component of any of today’s pressing issues, be they issues of loss of biodiversity, habitat destruction, natural resources depletion, urban sprawl, climate change …
  9. Support policies and programs to stabilize the population of California, the country and the world when you become an active member of CAPS. Join today!
