Batting 1.000
The City of San Francisco continues to bat a thousand in the poor judgment department concerning illegal immigration.
They were the first city in the country to recognize the useless and error riddled Mexican Matricula Consular ID card in 2002. You can now open a bank account in the U.S. with a Matricular card. Interestingly, you can’t open a bank account in Mexico with one.
Last year we learned of the absolute stupidity of San Francisco officials, specifically Mayor Gavin “I wanna be governor someday” Newsome who thought it was a good use of taxpayers’ money to shield crack dealers and MS 13 gang members from federal immigration officials. Brilliant. We all remember the tragic result of this governmental malfeasance; the murder of three family members by one of the punks, an MS13 gang member who had been protected by San Francisco, three dead citizens and a $200 million wrongful death lawsuit against the City. Good work.
Now, SF is issuing ID cards to anyone who can “prove” they live in San Francisco. I put quotations around “prove” because there is no way this bunch of irresponsible adolescents is going to ensure that the people they give these cards to are who they say they are. Illegal aliens, criminals and terrorists…just get in line.
If you were to ask San Francisco government to help deal with the illegal immigration problem they would respond that it is “a federal problem.” Many cities used this dodge in the 1990s when citizens thought, as we all thought, that governments at all levels would be interested in upholding the rule of law.
Well, those naïve days of thinking the government is going to solve the problem are past. We all know that the federal government does as little as possible to stem the tide of illegals entering our country. And with cities like San Francisco openly soliciting illegal aliens they will continue to be Meccas for illegal aliens who will have nothing to fear from law enforcement.
California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, (former SF Supervisor) said, “It shows the spirit of San Francisco, our openness. It shows the heart of San Francisco. It also shows that we can be very very smart about policy.” This is what passes for thinking in San Francisco. It also shows a spirit of immaturity, shortsightedness and adolescent rebellion against the rule of law.

The real reason for issuing the cards has everything to do with business. These cards have discounts at some businesses and entertainment venues. How nice.
I am confidant that criminals will begin exploiting these new ID cards in short order. Besides getting several cards to help with their criminal endeavors, forgeries will begin popping up as soon as the first card is issued. Criminals will apply for, and receive, multiple ID cards.
The only question remaining unanswered is how this will generate victims. But, I have faith that the criminals who love to live in the Sanctuary City by the Bay will find a way.
