Denham Advocating Amnesty And More Foreign Workers Despite 12% Unemployment In Modesto

MODESTO, CA –  November 18, 2013 –  Californians for Population Stabilization launched radio ads today in Modesto, California asking why Congressman Jeff Denham is pushing for amnesty and millions more immigrant workers when unemployment in his own district is at nearly 12% and California’s returning veterans have one of the highest unemployment rates of any state in the country.  The ads will run for several weeks.

“Congressman Denham claims to be a veterans advocate but now he’s joined with Nancy Pelosi to put the interests of illegal aliens and foreign workers ahead of our own returning veterans who need those jobs,” commented Joe Guzzardi, Media Director for Californians for Population Stabilization.  “That’s no way to thank the men and women of our armed services who put their lives on the line for us.”

Denham recently became the first House Republican to announce his support for Nancy Pelosi’s immigration bill that would provide amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens and admit millions more immigrant workers to take American jobs.  Denham announced his support for Pelosi’s bill on national Spanish language television several weeks ago and since then has continued publicly pushing to pass Pelosi’s amnesty bill before the end of the year.

The unemployment rate in Congressman Denham’s district remains around 12%, about five percentage points higher than the national average and three points higher than the current state unemployment rate.

“Neither political party gets it on immigration, even though good immigration policy seems like common sense to most Americans,” commented Guzzardi.  “Good immigration policy is fair to both immigrants and Americans, and doesn’t put immigrants’ interests ahead of Americans’.”

The immigration issue has especially befuddled Republicans as of late.  Republicans who represent Wall Street want more cheap labor regardless of the impact on American workers.  Other Republicans like Jeff Denham believe that amnesty will get them more Hispanic votes, despite research to the contrary.

“Republicans like Jeff Denham are in no man’s land on the immigration issue.  They’re representing cheap labor, Wall Street one percenters and foreign workers. But they’re not representing the American workers who elected them,” commented Guzzardi.  “Republicans like Denham need to stand up for American workers – Hispanic American workers, African American workers, all American workers.  Maybe then they can get America and even the Republican party working again.”
