CAPS eNews and Action

How many more families need to suffer the loss or harm of their loved ones?  On the heels of heels of the murder of Kate Steinle by a 7-felony, 5-times-deported illegal alien, comes Marilyn Pharis' brutal rape and bludgeoning death in Santa Maria by two suspects, one of whom is allegedly an illegal alien that had been arrested six times in 15 months

We can thank Santa Maria Police Chief Ralph Martin for telling the truth:

"I am not remiss to say that from Washington D.C. to Sacramento, there is a blood trail to Marilyn Pharis' bedroom."

Please consider taking a moment to thank Police Chief Martin for his truthful statement by contacting him at (805) 928-3781 x2272.

CAPS alerted its Central Coast activists to a protest at the Santa Maria courthouse during the arraignment.  Another demonstration is scheduled for September 22.  We will share information with our activists in the local area as more information becomes available.  If you are further afield, but wish to participate, please let us know.

What more can you do to protect your family?  Take action on the alerts below and sign CAPS' petition.

In other news, as the California drought wages on, please see our work with Governor Brown, our support of #SaveLACougars, and the results of CAPS' members survey.

Thank you for standing strong with CAPS.

Sincerely,

Jo Wideman
CAPS Executive Director

"…the state would not only support its current population of 39 million, but probably could accept at least 10 million more residents…"
-Governor Brown referring to water in a Los Angeles Times article

Capping CA at 50M?

These two summer quotes from Governor Jerry Brown (above) show your efforts are working — he is starting to consider population.  While we don’t agree that an additional 10 million people should be accommodated, because of population momentum, to keep CA at 50 million people, CAPS’ solutions of immigration reduction and family planning need to be implemented right away. CAPS’ Board of Directors is working to help Governor Brown stick to a maximum population of 50 million Californians. Stay tuned for more details.

CAPS Supporting Cougars in Los Angeles

As the burgeoning population of Los Angeles further encroaches on mountain lions, more and more are being killed while trying to cross freeways.  CAPS is part of a consortium of cities, agencies, organizations, and businesses to publicly support the National Wildlife Federation's #SaveLACougars campaign to build a safe wildlife crossing at the 101 Freeway. Learn more about the project here.

CAPS' Drought Survey

Thank you to those of you that answered CAPS' Drought Survey.  Here are the highlights:

  • Nearly 61% of respondents are under mandatory water restrictions
  • 37% have voluntary restrictions in place
  • Nearly 37% have had rate increases
  • Nearly 53% said water agencies are NOT including overpopulation as a contributing factor
  • 46% say their communities are not yet angry about water restrictions, while 31% say their communities are already angry
  • More than 93% of CAPS members say they strongly agree or agree that immigration-driven population growth worsens California's drought problems
