Border Patrol Agent Says Luis Gutierrez ‘Doesn’t Know What He’s Talking About’

Published on August 26th, 2014

When asked what he thought about U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez’s whine that Central American alien children are fleeing gun violence only to be met at the border by agents with guns, National Border Patrol Council #3307 Vice President and active on-duty agent Chris Cabrera told Fox News that “he [Gutierrez] just really doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Police investigating murders
Police investigate two Chicago murders in U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez’s district.

Cabrera told host Stuart Varney that what he sees are criminals including multiple immigration offenders, drug dealers, smugglers and assorted “bad guys” that have initiated cross-border shootings. And, of course the unlawful entrants include not only children but young adults and pregnant women. (See confirming evidence in the video imbedded in a Washington Post story here.)

Whether you believe Gutierrez that the so-called children are at risk from Border Patrol agents or side with Cabrera that too many dangerous adults are entering probably depends on where you are. Most Americans watching the evening news from their homes think that the first order of business is to immediately secure the border. Recent polling also found that more than half those asked want the Central American aliens returned. If you’re viewing the unfolding invasion from Capitol Hill, however, congressional inaction on deporting the aliens indicates that you may lean in Gutierrez’s direction.

Since the passionate Gutierrez has a deep commitment to helping young Hispanics escape gun violence, he should start at home. His redrawn 4th Congressional District of Illinois includes two majority Hispanic parts of Chicago heavily populated by Hispanics and Puerto Ricans.

This weekend in Chicago, seven were killed and 27 wounded. Among those murdered were two 16-year-old girls, victims of drive-by shootings. Chicago’s 2014 homicide total is 213. During the three-year period from 2010 through 2012, 260 Chicago school children were murdered, an American tragedy Gutierrez rarely addresses in his numerous press conferences.
