California’s Newly Elected Governor Doubles Down on Providing Healthcare to Illegal Aliens

Published on January 28th, 2019

In 2019, access to affordable and high-quality health care remains a top concern for most Americans. With the passage of Obamacare in 2009, and a subsequent barrage of state healthcare laws, many working-class families are still struggling to keep up with rising premiums and deductibles.

While there are many different opinions on how to “fix” our healthcare system, there are some clear examples of healthcare proposals that are making the problem worse. Enter California.

Newly elected California Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed a new budget that would expand health care coverage to illegal aliens.

The Washington Times explains why Governor Newsom touted the proposal shortly after taking office.

“Newly sworn-in California Gov. Gavin Newsom, vowing to provide “sanctuary to all who seek it,” has proposed extending state health care coverage to more illegal immigrants living within the Golden State’s borders.

Hours after assuming office, Mr. Newsom released sweeping health care proposals to raise the age limit for illegal aliens covered by Medi-Cal from 19 to 26, which would make California “the first state in the nation to cover young undocumented adults through a state Medicaid program,” according to a Monday release from the governor’s office.

Mr. Newsom, who ran on a universal health care platform, also proposed expanding Obamacare subsidies to middle-class earners and reinstating the Obamacare individual mandate at the state level.”

Governor Newsom’s proposed budget joins an avalanche of laws and policies such as California’s sanctuary law and driver’s licenses for illegal aliens that put out a welcome mat for more illegal immigration.

In addition to the immigration debate, the burden on taxpayers to provide subsidized Medi-Cal health care to a population of illegal aliens, which could drastically increase in the coming decades, is reckless to say the least.

One California resident put it this way for ABC news affiliate KEYT in Santa Barbara.

“Our state can't sustain it," said resident Nicolai Nikolenko. "We are already in debt. We are running a deficit. We are nearly bankrupt. We need to take care of our very own citizens before we worry about taking care of undocumented immigrants.”

Unfortunately, California’s newly elected governor, Gavin Newsom, is not taking seriously the billions of dollars in unfunded liabilities that subsidized government programs for illegal aliens has brought to California.

As CAPS has explained, California has become a welcome mat for illegal immigration.
