Jerry Brown’s ‘Freeloaders’ Will Underwrite $45 Million Alien Defense Fund

When a state is deeply in the red, budget increases should be scrutinized. But in California, where the state faces, according to Governor Jerry Brown, a $1.6 billion shortfall, there’s still always money aplenty for illegal immigrants’ causes.

The latest immigration-related news that came from Sacramento is that in its new $183 billion budget, California will provide an additional $15 million to the original $30 million allocation to provide aliens legal representation should they be put into deportation proceedings. Total to be shelled out on illegal immigrants’ behalf: $45 million.

To the disappointment of millions of Californians, Gov. Brown is a man of his word. In his January State of the State address, he vowed that “We will defend everybody – every man, woman and child – who has come here for a better life and has contributed to the well-being of our state.”

The revised budget was announced on the heels of the California legislature extending former Attorney General Eric Holder’s $25,000 monthly contract. California hired Holder and his law firm, Covington and Burling, to resist to the maximum extent the Trump administration’s efforts to deport criminal aliens.

Of the $45 million illegal immigrant legal defense fund, as well as Holder’s salary and his expenses, California’s working taxpayers, those who Gov. Brown called “freeloaders,” will provide every dime.

Several other California cities and counties are undertaking similar efforts to create alien defense funds. In Los Angeles, advocates want convicted violent criminal aliens to qualify for legal counsel.

Many law-abiding California residents want to know when the indictments for harboring illegal immigrants will be filed against state officials and sanctuary city mayors.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Department of Justice has the tools to do exactly that:

Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324 defines several distinct offenses related to aliens which include concealing or harboring unauthorized aliens, encouraging or inducing unauthorized aliens to enter the United States, and engaging in a conspiracy or aiding and abetting any of the preceding acts. (Italics added.)
