Maryland Gov. O’Malley Predicts ‘Certain Death’ for Returned Aliens; Facts Contradict Him

Published on July 21st, 2014

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley is a long-standing immigration advocate. O’Malley, now in his second term, considers his signature on the state’s DREAM Act that rewards aliens with low-cost instate tuition his crowning achievement. The Chamber of Commerce has honored O’Malley’s efforts to promote more Science, Technology, Engineering and Math visas, proof that the governor wants not only expanded entitlements for illegal immigrants, but more legal immigration too.

Unfortunately for O’Malley, the border surge has further clouded his judgment regarding immigration. Pleading for the aliens to be allowed to stay, O’Malley outrageously predicted that if the children are returned to Central American, it “sends them to certain death.”

O’Malley’s suggestion that children might be killed back in their home nations is at best hyperbole, but is more likely a purposeful statement O’Malley made hoping to maximize sympathy for the minors. But, unless the children’s families are directly involved in drug trafficking or some other criminal enterprise, they’re highly unlikely to face “certain death” at the hand of gang members.

I’ve lived in Guatemala, and have sisters, nieces and nephews who still live there. My nieces and nephews have children. I’ve traveled throughout Central America. The suggestion that a law-abiding resident can’t go to the store for milk without ducking bullets is laughable. If they were in high danger, my sisters would be phoning me asking if they could come live in my house. So far, I haven’t gotten any calls.

Mainstream news reports and congressional comprehensive immigration reform supporters nevertheless repeatedly claim that the main driver in the alien surge is Central American violence. Not to underplay that there is indeed a high level of violence in El Salvador and Honduras, but a leaked, confidential 10-page study reveals another story.

The report from the El Paso Intelligence Center, an FBI arm for sharing information about drug trafficking and terrorism along the Southwest border, determined that the real magnet for Central Americans is the United States’ nonexistent immigration enforcement and the widely spread misinformation about how aliens will be received once inside the U.S.

From the study: “Of the 230 migrants interviewed, 219 cited the primary reason for migrating to the United States was the perception of U.S. immigration laws granting free passes or permisos to UAC (unaccompanied children) and adult females OTMs (other than Mexicans) traveling with minors.”

Go to the CAPS’ Action Alert Page here to tell President Obama that you want Central American aliens deported, an action which would show that the United States enforces its immigration laws and would also stem future illegal immigration’s flow.
