President Obama stated:

In terms of potential threats, the release of the Taliban who were being held in Guantanamo was conditioned on the Qataris keeping eyes on them and creating structure in which we can monitor their activities. We will be keeping eyes on them. Is there the possibility of some of them trying to return to activities that are detrimental to us? Absolutely. That's been true of all the prisoners that were released from Guantanamo. There is a certain rate that takes place.

I wouldn't be doing it if I thought it was contrary to the American national security and we have confidence that we will be in a position to go after them if, in fact, they are engaging in activities that threaten our defenses. But this is what happens at the end of wars. That was true for George Washington, that was true for Abraham Lincoln, that was true for FDR. That has [been] true for every combat situation, that at some point you make sure that you try to get your folks back, and that's the right thing to do.

Take those comments and replace the words “Taliban,” “Guantanamo” and “Qataris,” and consider how you would react to the President saying this:

In terms of potential threats, the release of illegal aliens that were being held in prison was conditioned on law enforcement personnel keeping eyes on them and creating a structure in which we can monitor their activities...Is there the possibility of some illegal aliens trying to return to activities detrimental to us? Absolutely. That’s been true of all the prisoners that were released from prison. There is a certain rate that takes place.

I wouldn't be doing it if I thought it was contrary to the American national security and we have confidence that we will be in a position to go after them if, in fact, they are engaging in activities that threaten our defenses...that's the right thing to do.

Let me translate for you.

The Obama administration releases illegal aliens back into society and will “keep eyes on them.” Meanwhile, the release will test the structures that the administration created in order to monitor their activities (side note: the structures that were in place have been effectively neutered by the Obama administration).

Will some of the illegal aliens try to drive without a license, vandalize your property, steal your car, drink & drive, harm your family/friends or execute terror activities on a massive scale? Of course! However, that is true of any illegal aliens that we release. We will risk your lives, livelihood and that of your family and friends. Our ad hoc catch & release program is not contrary to American national security. Illegal aliens will be released and caught if we discover that they are doing anything to threaten the security of the U.S. or its citizens. We trust them to “do the right thing” because “it's the right thing to do.”
