Illegal Immigration and Sanctuary Cities

Turning a Blind Eye Gets You a Blindfold!

SANTA BARBARA — As the public increasingly voices its anger over crimes committed by illegal aliens, Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS), a nonprofit organization, is calling out decision-makers who support sanctuary policies and enable regrettable, preventable tragedies.

In a report from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), they admitted to freeing 19,723 criminal aliens in 2015. The number of convictions between the criminal aliens totaled 64,197 – including 8,234 violent convictions and 208 homicide convictions. “Any self-respecting country has control over its borders. We currently have a situation in which local governments, sheriffs, and now even ICE managers are caving-in to special interests and promoting sanctuary policies,” said Jo Wideman, executive director of CAPS.

Californians are particularly impacted by these policies, with their state consistently having the highest number of releases in the country. Responding to this reality, CAPS is sending blindfolds, with a provocative pamphlet to every ICE field office director in California. The group wants to make clear that sanctuary policies have consequences. Wideman says, “As the headline killing of Kate Steinle demonstrated, Americans are routinely victimized by crimes that did not have to happen. These preventable crimes number in the tens of thousands, ranging from drunk driving and theft to sexual assaults and murders.”

CAPS wants the men and women of ICE to speak out against those in their agencies who foster a culture of apathy toward immigration enforcement. Wideman said, “I have had numerous conversations with grieving parents who lost their children to criminal illegal aliens. Years later, pain of their loss, caused by the hasty release of an illegal alien with a known criminal record, is simply devastating.”

CAPS will continue sending blindfolds to ICE leadership, in addition to elected officials, sheriffs, and others who are in the position to restore the rule of law and immigration sanity, but often choose otherwise.
