TV ADS SAY CALIFORNIA’S SANCTUARY CITIES VIOLATE STATE LAWS AND PROTECT CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS FROM PROSECUTION AND DEPORTATION

— Campaign Asks Californians To Voice Their Opinion —

SANTA BARBARA, CA. – August 25, 2008 – Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) launched a TV campaign today in California. The TV spots ask Californians to express their opinions about Sanctuary City policies in force, formally or informally, in many cities across the state.

Characterized by a history of controversy, Sanctuary Cities have recently come under fire again as a result of murders allegedly perpetrated by illegal aliens with long criminal histories who could have been deported if such policies had not been in place. In Sanctuary Cities, police officers are prohibited from asking immigration status, often even after a suspect has been arrested. The result is convicted criminal illegal aliens are too often put back on the streets instead of being deported. Though Sanctuary City policies violate state and federal laws, several California Mayors have defended the policy including Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles and Mayor Jerry Sanders of San Diego.

Diana Hull, President of Californians for Population Stabilization commented, “The policy defies common sense. In essence, the public officials elected to protect us are pushing policies that facilitate crime and acts of violence against the very people they’re sworn to protect. They need to wake up and change this unlawful policy immediately. California should be a sanctuary for law abiding Californians, not criminal illegal aliens.” Hull continued, “Another aspect of this tragedy nobody is discussing is the fact that those living in immigrant communities are the ones most likely to be victimized by these hardened criminals. Why aren’t the Mayors taking that into account and where is the news media on that aspect of this issue?”

The TV spots make the point that Californians are compassionate people given their patience with Sanctuary City policies up to this point. “But now, an increase in violent crimes such as the recent triple murder in San Francisco and a long history of negative consequences show the necessity for ending this practice," said Hull.

The TV commercials then ask Californians whether the Sanctuary City policy has “taken our compassion too far?” Viewers are then asked to voice their opinions at CAPSWEB.ORG.
