A ‘safe haven’ for illegals in the US

Of great relief to hundreds of thousands of Filipino illegal immigrants in the US is the reported offer by San Francisco of a “safe haven” to undocumented foreign workers within its city borders.

A news item appearing in one paper the other day quoted San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom that the city is launching a campaign, assuring “illegals” that they are safe from immigration arrests.

Laughter might be the best medicine, but in our immigration nation, some people take it too far.

In the absence of leaders such as Mexican American labor and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, if anything is to be accomplished regarding immigration, Californians need to simply talk it out, or maybe even have a laugh or two.

That solution seems simple, but it is certainly fundamental in that debate over immigration.
