– Recent Vote to Make California Sanctuary for Illegal Aliens Encourages More Immigration, More Population Growth –

LOS ANGELES (April 17, 2017) – Today Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) launched TV and radio spots across Los Angeles suggesting California implement policies to slow mass immigration, slow population growth and save some California for future generations. The ads are scheduled to run through Earth Day.

“Instead of discouraging population growth, California politicians are encouraging mass immigration by pushing sanctuary state policies,” said Jo Wideman, Executive Director of Californians for Population Stabilization. “California should be a sanctuary, for Californians. For biodiversity hotspots and environmental treasures. Not for criminal illegal aliens.”

Numerous scientific studies have established the link between population growth and environmental degradation. More people mean more cars, trucks and buses on roads, more air pollution; more parking lots and high-rise condominiums mean less green space. More chemicals, trash and runoff cascading into streams, lakes and oceans mean more damage to biodiversity hotspots and natural treasures; more people mean greater pressure on natural resources, including drinking water.

Approximately 40 million people currently live in California. By 2030, the California Department of Finance projects the state’s population will increase to more than 44 million, adding another 340,000 people annually, “equivalent to adding the population of a city the size of Anaheim each year.” And the population is increasing despite native-born Californians having fewer children. Where are all the people coming from? Based on USC Population Dynamics Research Group statistics, nearly all of California’s population growth is a result of immigration and births to immigrants.

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, nearly one quarter of all illegal aliens in the U.S. reside in California. The California State Senate recently passed a “sanctuary bill” to protect illegal aliens from deportation by restricting cooperation among local law enforcement, ICE and other federal agencies. The Trump Administration has threatened to withhold federal funds from California as a result. And Santa Clara County has asked a federal judge to prohibit the Trump administration from withholding federal funds.

“Nobody wants to see federal funding cut. But if that’s what it takes to remind California’s political elites that they’re supposed to put the needs of working Americans first, then it’s a great idea,” added Wideman.

The commercials feature a child, representing the next generation of Californians, asking, “If Californians are having fewer children, why are there so many cars? Why is the air so dirty? Where are all the people coming from?” Population growth in California is driven by immigration and births to immigrants, according to the spot, which concludes with the message that by slowing immigration we can “save some California for tomorrow.”

“We have a responsibility to leave California’s environment, air, water and natural resources in a better state for future generations,” concluded Wideman. “By drawing the line on mass immigration, we can slow population growth and preserve California’s natural treasures.”
